The Grandma Pose: What It Is And Why You Need It
Every gallery has one, and every gallery needs one. There are a few different variations, but the fundamentals remain the same: it’s a photo of both of you looking directly at the camera and smiling.
It’s usually not a photo that’s going to go viral on IG. You won’t see a ton of them on your Pinterest feed. But they are absolutely essential to every single gallery.
I usually explain them by saying “it has nothing to do with grandparents, but this will be the photo that goes on your grandma’s mantle”. It’s the photo your mom loves. It’s the one that usually gets printed over and over again, is used for save-the-dates, and is featured on the Christmas card.
The intimate, emotional photos are always amazing. The playful, fun photos are always a hit. But there is something about the simplicity of being able to see both your faces, smiling with genuine joy, and looking directly at the camera. Those photos are going to last the test of time.
The grandma pose is the only one I do with every single couple, and it is (by far) the one that I see printed most often. It’s probably not going to get the most likes or bring in the most inquiries, but it is the photo that will become a family heirloom. And that is what matters most to me.
