book review- fractured sky by catherine cowles
2 star/cowboy?/small town/grumpy man
I wanted to like this book. I really, really did. It had all of my favorite elements (*cough* hot cowboy *cough*) but it fell flat for me.
I want to preface by saying that I haven't read any other books in this series, and that could be part of what lowered my rating.
At first, I was really into this book. I loved the backstory, and the PTSD/trauma elements we were seeing. A girl fighting for her freedom? A surly cowboy who isolates from the rest of the world? Say less. You've got me. I was hooked.
Then, we got to the development of their relationship. And it was like both characters completely lost their entire personalities in the span of a single page. They threw their trauma-riddled past to the side, and suddenly were welcoming each other (and other characters) with open arms. Then, we had insta-love, and I was instantly out. There was no real build up, no relationship development, and no reason for me to believe that these characters actually had REAL feelings for each other.
I enjoyed the character development, backstory, and setting, but that was about it.
